Last weekend we travelled to Moravia to play a gig in Bystřice pod Hostýnem. We played with a band called Tajíledy and performed in a chateau, palace type place. Everyone there was really sweet and although we played in a tunnel, which was acoustically challenging, I think it turned out well; we even managed to play our cover of ‘Come On Let’s Go’ by Broadcast after a long time, which was nice. After the show we went to a local bar called Dodo and on the way there came up with the tongue twister ‘dědo, jedeme do doda dodávkou’. We were searching for a hermelín (pickled cheese) but ended up just snacking on nuts and olives, while Kuba and Slajmer went on a search (unsuccessfully) for some other food. It was great talking to everyone there, they took a hold of the speakers in the pub and so we listened to some tunes before we headed to our hotel.
Our hotel was AMAZING, it was as if it was stuck in time, from the interior design to the small butler who wore a red waistcoat and seemed to talk in riddles. He was one of those people who you can tell has been doing their job for so long that they have built up a repertoire of funny phrases and replies and it was incredibly charming. We turned on our old static TV in our room and watched an episode of the Simpsons (which always happens to be on) and went to sleep. In the morning an incredible breakfast awaited us, me and Pája got down early and were greeted by our guardian angel who handed us a hand-typed typewriter menu, with all the Czech classics you might need (this is what we needed last night when we were hungry!). We both ordered an orange juice and Hemenex, which for those unenlightened is ‘Ham and Eggs’. It was delicious and we ended the meal with a coffee and a ‘coffin with cream’ which is a type of square meringue.
We left our beloved hotel and headed on our 6 hour journey to Poland, Krakow. It was a beautiful day, compared to the last time we had been to Klub Re, which had been almost exactly a year ago, along with Marcel Gidote's Holy Crab. We met with Cyprian, our kind and wild guide who has been lovely enough to book us there twice. We headed to our accommodation but shortly realised that Cyprian had been scammed by a booking website, so instead we headed to have dinner at the amazing veggie restaurant we visited on our last visit. Dinner included: Lasagne, Burritos, Pierogi, fried eggplant and much more (we ended up going again the next day which tells you how much we enjoyed it). We headed back to the club where we were sharing the stage with the band Fabryka Bezbronnych. They played their set and then we played ours and it turned out great I think. Our no1. fan Marcin, who writes us the most extensive wonderful reviews, and even travelled to Prague to see us, was there and so we made sure to play him some of his favourite songs from our album. We finished the show and Cyprian immediately began to tend to our every (alcoholic) need and we danced the night away. We had full reign over the music and during the song ‘I Let My Tyres Down’ by Tropical Fuckstorm, Slajmer danced so intensely, rolling across the floor, that he split his trousers right down the middle. All in all we had great time, we got to our freshly booked hotel around 4:00am and went to bed.
